Lake Oswego students recently turned their perceptions of the natural world into artwork and a select few students earned prizes.

As part of Lake Oswego Arbor Month, the city hosted an art contest with the theme “Trees are for the Birds!”

“Participants were asked to find a fun fact about how birds use trees and create an original work of art featuring trees and birds to represent their fun fact,” contest organizer and arborist Morgan Holen said via email.

In the kindergarten through second grade division, Down to Earth Forest School kindergartner Dean Milner earned first prize while Forest Hills Elementary School first grader Lumi King placed second and Oak Creek Elementary School kindergartner Ahaan Joshi garnered third.

In the third grade through fifth grade vision, Palisades Elementary School fifth grader Kyrie Taylor received first place while Palisades Elementary School fourth grader Audrey Cherrytree finished second and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School third grader Ada Lofts placed third.

Prizes will be doled out at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at the Lake Oswego Farmers Market in Millennium Plaza Park. But that is not all.

“The May 17th Farmers’ Market will feature Urban & Community Forestry booths and activities for children and adults. Spin the prize wheel, do a craft, talk to an arborist, learn about stewardship opportunities in your neighborhood and more,” Holen added.

The pieces are on display electronically at City Hall and the Lake Oswego Public Library through mid-May and can also be found at www.ci.oswego.or.us/planning/arbor-month-art-contest-2025.
