Oregon State Parks will offer free camping and day-use parking across the state on Saturday, June 7, in celebration of State Parks Day.
The annual event, which began in 1998, is held the first Saturday in June as a thank-you to Oregonians for their continued support of the state’s park system.
“We are honored to steward and share these places with Oregonians and all our visitors,” said Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) Director Lisa Sumption. “We would not have the park system that we have today without their support.”
Day-use parking fees will be waived at all 25 parks that normally charge them, and camping will be free for all tent, RV and horse sites. Many parks will also host free public events.
The Cove Palisades will hold the Festival of the Land from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring Dutch oven cooking, kids’ activities, a petting zoo, educational booths and a mini farmers market.
Park crews have spent recent weeks preparing for the summer season, including major cleanup projects like clearing storm debris and re-opening camp loops.
